Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Two strikes have affected National Carriers, at least temporarily. The engineers' weekly stoppages cost the company £20,000 a week.

The television dispute has also been expensive. Toy and confectionary manufacturers normally advertise heavily on television in early autumn and a big immediate public demand is created. This year toy traffic has dropped from 30,000 to 15,000 boxes a week, with a .corresponding reduction in confectionary deliveries.

Brian Hayward told me that how much of the lost trade could be regained before Christmas depended on how the October income-tax rebates were spent. If they went into the shopkeepers" tills, National Carriers" outlook was bright.

But the prospect, under the Government's timetable for tachographs, of having to spend £1.25 million on them in two years tended to wipe the happy smile off Brian's face.
