Brief Details of a Saloon Model which 'Carrier Motors, Ltd., Have Supplied to an Ulster User.

AMONGST the various types and sizes of passenger vehicles which have recently left the works of Karrier Motors, Ltd., Karrier Works, Huddersfield, is a particularly high-class saloon bus, which has been supplied to the order of an Irish user. The chassis which is employed for this vehicle is the makers' well-known 31‹ model, which, as many of our readers may know, embodies in its design a fourcylinder engine with a bore of 4# ins. and a stroke of 6 ins., a cone-type clutch, a four-speed-and-reverse gearbox and a worm-driven rear axle. The power unit develops 42 h.p. at a normal speed of 1,000 r.p.m.

The chassis is designed to carry a net load of 32 passengers, but, in the case of the vehicle commissioned by Mr. W. Gordon, of Cavan, Ulster, the body is arranged to seat 30 people.

The bodywork of this vehicle was carried out by,. Hall, Lewis and Co., Ltd., 14, Cockspur Street, London, S.W.1, and is of the limousine type. It is arranged for one-man control, the passenger entrance and exit being on the near side of the front. A door is provided in the back panel for use in emergency. The passenger door extends for the full width of the body side and the intermediary step, which leads to the interior, is under the control 'of the driver, by whom IL is operated through the medium of special lever-type gear. The emergency door is capable of operation both from ' outside and inside the vehicle. All windows. with the exception of two D-shaped lights at the rear, are made to be lowered between the inner and outer panels of the body.

The seating is arranged on con

ventional lines. The seats are of the semi-bucket type with spring backs, and are well padded and covered with good-quality hide. The interior of the body is covered with blue moquette down to the garnish rails and is suitably finished with silk lace edging. Eight interior lights are fitted in the roof and that in the centre is combined with an Airvac ventilator. There is also an auxiliary lamp above the door at the front, which throws a light on to the steps.

The woodwork is finished in a rich shade of mahogany, with plate-glass

mirrors fitted above and be. hind the driver's partition. The lining boards are covered with leather cloth of a shade to match the upholstery and these boards are completed with aluminium -•kicking strips, which prevent the cloth from being damaged.

All the fittings throughout the body are nickel-plated, and heavy-pattern cloth blinds in blue are arranged so that they can be drawnacross the windows. Match strikers and ash-trays are fitted to each row of seats, and other refinements which serve to make for the comfort and convenience of the passenger are incorporated. A portion of the roof is screened off by a luggage rail, and it is reached by folding steps, which, when not in use, are accommodated on the near-side running board. A carrier for housing the spare wheel is provided below the body at the rear.

So far as the exterior is concerned the vehicle is finished in an attractive shade of smoke blue, with the chassis and mudguards contrasting in black. The chassis is shod with pneumatic tyres of 38-in. by 7-in, dimensions and twins are used on the rear wheels.
