Chatting with EP Training director Shaun Pargeter, it turns out that the first-time pass rate is around 60%, although I may have helped lower that figure.
There's also been a noticeable decline in people signing up for driver training, with companies cutting back or just coping with the existing personnel.
"Things aren't fantastic at the moment. We have two trucks running currently, although we usually have three. There's a dip out there because there's no money and no jobs, and there's also been the emergence of brokers." Pargeter warns of many stories regarding people booking driver training through brokers they find on the web, which, in turn, farm out the course to a third party that may not have DSA-approved trainers and provide poor service or whose location is not convenient — something to bear in mind when looking at training courses.
And although I was a third-time lucky success story, it was nothing En comparison with one trainee who took an excessive nine attempts. "He was convinced that he'd done enough training and just continued faking the tests", says Pargeter. Ah well, persistence does pay off in the end.
