A PLANNED truck park in north-east Scotland faces years of delay after a council decided against including the full £245,000 development cost in its budget.
Aberdeenshire County Council has agreed to buy a site for the park near Fraserburgh's quayside fish markets and to finalise its design. But funding for the project will not feature in the council's budget for at least four years.
Fraserburgh councillor Ian Tait describes the situation as "crazy and unfair", saying local people have been waiting for the 15-space lorry park for years: "Lorries have nowhere to park except on the street. Some of them are going on to the promenade area.
He says noise from reefers adds to the problem: "Local people would not have to put with large, noisy, smelly vehicles if this lorry park was built."
A spokesman for the council says:"Due to budget restrictions it has not been possible at the present time to give a commitment towards the construction costs."
George Murray, logistics manager for Killoh Haulage in Fraserburgh, agrees a lorry park is needed ."They park lorries around the harbour and on the promenade and that's for tourists."
