Welding safety screen

WATH RUBBER and Plastics, has produced a new transparent fireretardant pvc strip for use in mobile or fixed screens to surround welding operations.

Called Welding Bronze, the strips inhibit over 99 per cent of ultra violet light from any welding application, yet permits outsiders to see in without risk to the eyes.

The welding screens, which allow easy access to both personnel and materials, are available in 2 x 2m (6.56 x 6.56ft), mobile units and can be wheeled around a factory workshop to wherever welding operations are in progress. Welding Bronze can also be supplied in a continuous curtain strip with a variety of simple fixing or hanging systems for more permanent locations.

Plug in voltage control

SAND W BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEMS has launched the Sentinel controller — a four terminal encapsulated plug-in module designed to control AC current and voltage on vehicles, thus providing safe battery charging levels.

The controller is inserted between the AC supply and the battery, and it will allow the right amount of current required to keep the battery in prime condition, without any danger of under or over-charging. The Sentinel can be fitted as original equipment or added to existing vehicle electrics, and is designed to give operators maximum battery life. Units are available for 12 or 24v systems capable of handling currents between five and 20 amps. They are supplied with full fitting instructions and cost between £28-45, excluding vat, depending on model. . NIELSEN CHEMICALS has produced a new hand-cleansing gel. Called Flitestuf, the beaded gel is non-abrasive, and will remove oil, grease, tar, resins and glue. Portable diesel engine tester

A FULLY PORTABLE diesel engine tester which takes its power supply from the 12v or 24v battery fitted to the vehicle under test, has been developed by Souriau.

An injector pipe clamp working on the strain gauge principle picks up fuel pressure pulses to provide reference data during testing, thus avoiding the need to break into the fuel line. Simple to use, the unit can provide information on the state of pump, fuel lines and injectors.

The 1589 Dieseltester measures 393x229x305mm (15.5x9x12in) and costs £1,650 excluding vat.

TO HELP avoid accidents between pedestrians and moving vehicles or heavy plant, Southern Transport Enterprises has produced a reversing alarm which is activated automatically when reverse gear is engaged.

The alarm will also sound when a tipping body starts to lift or when a driver attempts to leave his cab without having applied the handbrake correctly.

The unit incorporates solidstate circuitry, housed in a fully waterproof high-impact moulding 76mm (3in) in diameter. Alternative input voltages are also available, from 12v to 72v DC in multiples of 12v.

STE claims that the alarm, called Rearguard Mk II, is simple to install and maintence-free. Price of the unit is from £30, and each kit is supplied with full fitting instructions.
