signal contest ahead

NO OBVIOUS succession emerged from last week's Road Haulage Association elections, which confirmed Birmingham haulier Bert Neely's elevation to the national chairmanship for the next two years.

Two vice-chairmen elected were Roy Bowles of Colnbrook, Middlesex-based Roy Bowles Transport, an air freight specialist, and Glyn Samuel of Flower's of York, a Transport Development Group company.

This contradicts information which CM used last week.

As neither was a vice-chairman before, there is no senior or junior vice-chairman, so the position of national chairman could well be subject to a contested election in 1986. RHA literature will give their names in alphabetical order.

The other members of the RHA board are former national chairman Harold Russett, Ted Heins of P and 0 group, Bob Heaton of Heaton's of St Helens, Barry Hempsall of Hempsall's of Newark, Tom Llewellyn of Econofreight, and National Freight chief executive designate Jack Mather.

Cyril Bridge, John Midgley and Ken Rogers are no longer board members.
