Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I wish to refer to the statement from Mr William Foden (CM, April 28).

He hoped that the British commercial vehicle industry would not suffer at the hands of Japanese imports as the motorcycle, televisior and car industries have in this country.

Surely these industries slept as these imports came in, offering quality and more reliability than their home-produced counterparts, and being sold at very attractive prices.

One thing Mr Foden forgets, in his criticism of John Harris: at least they will be providing much needed employment in the Merseyside area — something the Government cannot manage.

The only way the commercial vehicle industry can fight off this "little (or big) yellow peril" is to keep up with or ahead of this latest threat and to sell at competitive prices. After all, a little competition didn't do any industry harm.

JOHN L. LONDGON, DRIMfries.
