Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LEYLAND has launched a 6x4 Marathon 2 tipper and a INtonne Scammell Crusader tractive unit at Expomat (See News Extra, p27).

The Marathon is designed for on/off road operation and is rated at 26 tonnes gvw and 44 tonnes gtw. With the standard rear axle ratio of 6.176, the latest Marathon has a maximum road speed of 97km/h (60mph) and an easy restart capability on gradients in excess of 1 in 3 at 26 tonnes.

The mechanical features of the Marathon tipper are the same as for the haulage ver sion. A thirteen-speed RTO 9513 Fuller gearbox is available as an option and both of the gearboxes specified will accept a wide range of pto equipment.

At the rear, the two-spring T6 bogie is fitted, rated at 21 tonnes with an axle spread of 1.37m (4ft 6in). The front axle is plated at 6.6 tonnes and features semi-elliptic leaf springs and double-acting dampers. Kerb weight is around 8.25 tonnes (8tons 2cwt).

Also at Expomat, the new 100-tonne 6x4 CR100 Scam mell is designed to accept 28.4tonne kingpin load and the forerunner to a secoi new model, the Crusad CR150 — a 150-tonne gc tractive unit with an equ fifth wheel loading capacity.

The Crusader is powered I the turbocharged Rolls-Roy Eagle 305 Mk III which giv 227kW (305bhp) at 2,10Orp and 1,160Nm (8561bft) 1,500rpm — both figures DIN 70020 conditions. A Full 15-speed box is fitted giving ratio spread from 10.93 first gear to the 0.79 to 1 ow drive top ratio.

Suspension at the front is 1 semi-elliptic leaf spring, ru ber bush-located at the froi with slipper rear ends. At tl rear of the new Crusader the is a two-spring bogie featurii centre trunnion-mounted i verted slipper-ended le springs.

Ready for the road with fif wheel and 327 litres (72ga1) fuel, the Crusader CR11 weighs 10.24 tonnes (10to. I cwt).
