A SCOTS bus chief refuted allegations by the Traffic Commissioners and Central Regional councillors about "indifference and arrogance" by the Scottish Bus Group towards local authorities.

James Begg, general manager of W. Alexander & Sons (Midland) Ltd, praised his staff who, he said, were loyal, able and hard-working.

"The percentage of scheduled mileage operated by depots in the Central Region for any reason, including staff shortages, sickness, vehicle breakdown, road and weather conditions, was two per cent during the first three months of this year," he said.

"This was during a period of extreme weather conditions when we also had a very high incidence of sickness," he said.

One of the problems in recent months had been the cancellation of bus driving tests because of bad weather conditions.
