QTATISTICS• just published by the NJ Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders elaborate the earlier announcement that production and exports of commercial vehicles in March established new records. The industry's position as the world's 'largest exporter of commercial vehicles is confirmed.

Output in March averaged 5,293 units a week, compared with 5,188 in February. Total production for March amounted to 26,464 units, of which 17,052 were for export and 9,412 for the home market.

The month's output included 25,073 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types. Of these, 12,049 were for payloads of under. 15 cwt.; 12,359 were for 15 cwt. to 6 tons, and 665 were to carry over 6 tons. Of the 1,273 passenger vehicles constructed during the month, '762 were single-deck motorbuses, 483 were double-deck inotorbuses and'28 •were trolleybuses. Battery-electrics numbered113.

In the first quarter of the year, the .tstoreishing produCtiOn rate of 66,683 vehicles was set up, of which 42,306 were for export and 24,377 for home use. 'Goods vehicles, road haulage t ractors and special vehicles numbered 62,776, and were split up into the following categories;--Under 15 cwt., 31,337; 15 cwt. to 6 tons, 29,756; mad over 6 tons, 1,683. Passenger vehicles comprised 2,165single-deckers, 1,289 double-deckers and 87 tracybuses, giving a total of 3,541.

Altogether 366 battery-electrics were made, In addition, 25,980 agricultural tractors, 177 electric prams and 1,609 works trucks were constructed during the first quarter of the year.

If the rate of production solar set up be maintained, output for 1950 will far exceed that of 1949, which itself set up a new high record.

The export story is equally satisfactory. During March, 13,736 units valued at £5,748,425 were shipped, compared with 11,159 (£4,818,652) in February. Tn the first quarter of the year, 35,774 units were exported, bringing in foreign exchange of £15,113,653.

In addition, 768 used commercial vehicles (£634,868), 16,496 agricultural tractors (£5,899,011), and parts and accessories to the value of £11,649,158 were shipped in the first quarter.
