Geoff Howard, Euroway's group sales and marketing manager, says:" With contract hire, where the asset remains with the customer, some of our customers can borrow money cheaper than ourselves, then they buy the vehicles and we manage them ourselves."

Mark Howell, Euroway's group commercial director, highlights a deal with Scottish-based Oran Environmental Solutions as an example of what can be done. The operator is outsourcing repair and maintenance and is in partnership with Euroway for all fleet management requirements for 190 trucks and specialist trailers. The basis, says Howell. is investment in developing a network of 1,500 service repair agents to manage 2,200 contract hire vehicles and vehicles on fleet management.

Often operators want nothing more than reassurance. "It's people who want to get out of managing the day-to-day transport themselves and just want an 0800-number in the cab. That is basic, but they just want to know if they ring that one number, 24/7, a problem gets sorted," he says.
