• Thieves have been working hard on Volvo F12s and F16s in the Norfolk area, recent thefts show.

One victim — Myhill Machinery — even believes that the thieves are searching specifically for Globetrotter-cabbed trucks for export to the Turkish side of Cyprus.

On the night of 16 March an F12 Globetrotter was taken from Myhill's yard at Foulsham, Norfolk, despite the protection of two guard dogs, flood lighting and padlocked gates.

"They moved a Volvo worth £22,000 to get jump leads on to start the Globetrotter... The keys were in another Volvo worth £25,000 but they ignored it," says John Myhill.

He values the stolen truck at £15,000 and is offering a £4,000 reward for information on its whereabouts.

The vehicle's registration is B688 HJV and its chassis number is 041435.

The Melton Constable-based company has lost an F16 6x2, despite a security fence, locked gates and floodlights. The vehicle, which has a registration of F757 GAO, is valued at £30,000.

Trevor Smith has little confidence that it will be found: "You can't blame them but the police are an absolute waste of time," he says. "There are so many trucks around it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Where do they start?"

Crimeline has already publicised the theft of a Volvo F12 tractive unit from the Phelan Group, based at Snetterton, Norfolk (CM 12-18 March). Phelan is offering a £3,000 reward for the vehicle, registration number F540 BYF.
