• Thornabybased Warwick Contracts has been ordered to pay £6,071 compensation for unfairly dismissing truck driver Robert Morris.

A Middlesbrough industrial tribunal heard that the company had taken Morris off driving after other drivers had claimed that he was threatening them. He was sacked after being given two written warnings for twice refusing to sweep the yard in the space of 10 minutes.

The tribunal said that no evidence had been produced to prove Morris's alleged intimidation of other drivers.

The procedure the company had adopted had been unfair, although it considered that Morris was 25% to blame for his own dismissal: he ought to have realised the consequences.
