Sadly, the circumstances described earlier mean that the fuel consumption results aren't as conclusive as we'd have liked. However, were reasonably confident that if we'd followed our regular route, the economy would have been a touch better.

With a final drive ratio better suited to the test conditions, it would probably have been better stilt That said, and ifs and buts aside, the bottom tine is still very acceptable. The fact that today's Euro-5 engines are not just cleaner but more fuel efficient than Euro-3 engines five years ago is testimony to the skill of our industry's engineers.

As for the other aspects, the new engine is eminently drivable, especially with Opt icruise keeping it on the boil.

Scania's quality and engineering reputation remains intact, Apart from what seems to be an eye-watering price in the windscreen of a bread-and-butter machine, this Scania should please driver and operator in equal measure.

If only Scania would dump the clutch, we'd be happy as well.
