Exceeding the permitted gross weight of a 10-tonne vehicle has cost Sussexbased N Brown £1,000 in fines and costs.

The company; of Chariwood Read, Crawley, admitted the offence before the Barking Magistrates. It was fined £750 and ordered to pay £250 costs.

The vehicle was painted in the livery of those to whom the vehicle had been hired. He told the court that the company had a good record and were morally blameless.

Ostrin said that the driver, Ian Cresswell, had previously pleaded guilty to exceeding the maximum permitted gross weight and had been fined £200 and ordered to pay 170 costs.
