• Inland oil consumption of the UK reached a new record level, according to the Institute of Petroleum-89,342,950 tons, an increase of 7.9 per cent over the 82,828,586 tons used in 1968. Heavier commercial road transport usage of DERV fuel brought a rise in demand of 4.7 per cent, deliveries totalling 4,791,201 tons.
