[1224] Sir,—In your comment on my letter in this week's COMMERCIAL MOTOR, you say you will be interested to know my views on the War Office decision to accept the Dennis worm-driven axle as a subsidy type. I shall be pleased to express my views when I know that it has been accepted, and I take it that no one can know this until it has gone through the trials, and a certificate has been granted.

I will say that I do know that we ourselves pre pared designs, and actually started work on a chassis with a worm-driven axle, and were told that one of the conditions was that the drawings must be approved prior to the vehicle being entered for the trial, and that our proposed transmission was not approved of, so that we had no alternative but to prepare fresh designs, and construct a bevel driven axle.—Yours faithfully,
