A HAULAGE COMPANY from Rainham, Kent, has had its case referred back to the Deputy South-Eastern Traffic Area by London.
Betsy Hart, trading as BH Transport, is the licensee of a family business which operates tipper lorries. Her husband, William A. Hart, speaking on behalf of his wife, said that it was "harsh that the licence was revoked...
Mr Hart, BH Transport's general manager, said that since the Deputy Licensing Authority's decision in May, Mrs Hart has made an agreement with a large garage to have the vehicles inspected aRd maintained regularly.
He accepted that he was incapable of looking after the vehicles himself, but he had done so in the past when the vehicles did not go to a commercial garage.
Since May the company has Licensing Authority for the the Transport Tribunal in acquired a new yard, has signed a new maintenance and inspection contract, and was now using new offices.
Mr Hart said the vehicles brought in 90 per cent of the company's earnings and that the loss of them would cause
-considerable hardship". (The Deputy Licensing Authority said the business did not rely solely on its licensed vehicles, which Mr Hart refuted.)
Tribunal president George Squibb said he was sending the case back to the Deputy Licensing Authority because circumstances had changed.
Meanwhile Mrs Hart is allowed to continue operating.
