I WAS GLAD TO SEE that Stan Robinson is campaigning for a new motorway that would run from Warrington via Whitchurch and Telford then back to the M5 at the junction with the M42 (CM 15 December 2005).
Britain badly needs more motorways. We have less than 2,500 miles while France and Germany each have nearly 7,500 miles. Progress is very slow. Over the past 10 years, Britain has built just under 175 miles of motorway. During the same time.,ffiere has been a 36.6% increase in motorway traffic.
So the implication that building new roads creates traffic is demonstrably wrong.
