ARLY £1/2m has been spent by the Transport Department tee 1974 on reports from professional management consultts.
A breakdown of this total was given in the Commons by ansport Secretary William Rodgers. During the current ancial year, he said, £92,400 was being found for three reports, a of them dealing with motorway service areas.
There had been nothing during the previous year, but the four )orts during 1976-77 — including a study of NFC's financial 3spects and advice on how it should dispose of its overseas bsidiaries — had cost £229,000.
NFC financial prospects had also featured among the six )orts commissioned during 1975-76, for £75,900, while the 74-75 list (£100,000) totalled five, including two on the Channel innel and a report on the crew costs of bus operators.
Mr Rodgers pointed out that the list excluded any reports mmissioned in connection with research and development.
