Export capacity

GOOD British exporters are a good match for overseas exporters, said British Overseas Trade Board chairman Sir Frederick Catherwood, when he launched a Barclay's Bank report this week.

The Barclays Bank Export Development Report, which examines exporting techniques used by 360 British, French, and West German companies, concludes that the lack of export capacity is the main block against export ex pansion. '

Sir Frederick said that there had been a major increase in British trade with Western Europe over the last 10 years, and that this is likely to continue.

He said that overmanning had slowed down production and restricted productivity improvements, but this is being countered by the BOTB Exports Equals Jobs campaign.

Dover booming

DOVER'S commercial road haulage traffic to the end of November 1978 has already exceeded the 1977 total.

In the first 11 months of 1978, 412,424 road haulage vehicles passed through the port, compared with 373,335 in the same period of 1977.

This 10 per cent rise in road haulage traffic is a greater increase than in any other class of traffic using Dover.

Fridge service

PETTER Refrigeration, maker of refrigeration units for commercial vehicles, has opened a new service centre at Houghton Regis near Dunstable.

Fetter has closed its old centre on the Al in Hatfield because of changing road patterns, and the new site is close to the MI motorway in Bedfordshire.

As well as providing extensive maintenance facilities, the centre operates 24-hour emergency service vans.
