Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RIURAL transport difficulties in Snowdonia were described at Bedgellert, Caernarvonshire, last week, when Mr. J. R. .Lindsay, North Western Deputy Licensing Authority, heard an application for a new B licence by Mr. A. L. Griffiths.

Col, S. G'oodchild, far Mr. Griffiths, said there was urgent need for another haulier to serve the villages of Bedgellert, Rhyddu, Nant-Gwynant and Nant Mar, and tamp to and from Caernarvon.

The vehicles of the existing hauliers, Williams Transport Services, Ltd., and Mr. Watson Jones, were often tied up by County Council work, and Mr. Griffiths, a coal merchant, could supplement the transport if his vehicle were licensed. Mr. R. G. Williams, managing director of Williams Transport, Waenfawr, said two tippers and a " flat " were based at Bedgellert. None of Mr. Griffiths' seven witnesses had approached his company.

Answering Col. Goodchild, he denied that the lorries were kept at Waenfawr, eight miles away, and that the Bedgellert garage was seldom manned. He agreed that two vehicles were wholly employed by the county council for four months this year and one for practically the whole of the past two years.

Mr. Pritchard Jones, for Williams Transport, submitted that they were well able to meet -local needs. If a licence were granted the position would become uneconomic for everyone.

Granting the application, Mr. Lindsay said the arrangements at Williams Transport Bedgellert base were unsatisfactory. Mr. Griffiths' licence would be for general goods within five miles of Bedgellert, with occasional journeys to and from Caernarvon.
