Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A DRIVER HAS been forced to shell out £250 after his truck was clamped outside a supermarket in Thurrock. Essex, just months after truckers were being charged £150 for clamp removal in the same spot.

David Broom was threatening to take the matter further, claiming the warning signs at the site were inadequate and the unclamping fine was extortionate.

However, he claims Tesco has since stepped in and offered to pay the fine for him.

Broom says he parked up on the access road to Tesco's petrol station and superstore in Lakeside, Essex. Within five minutes his wheel had been clamped by Parking Control Management (PCM).

The self-employed driver was told he must pay £250 for its removal— plus a £5 charge for paying by credit card.

In May, driver John Hunt was fined £150 rather than the stand ard £85 fee when he was clamped outside the same Tesco store (CM 29 May).

-They haven't even got proper truck clamps," says Broom. "They're making money hand over fist."

PCM MD Mark Davis was unavailable for comment.
