Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EQUIPMENT produced by Ferranti, Ltd., Hollinwood, Lanes, provides 1-4 quick and accurate assessment of the efficiency of suspension systems

and chassis designs in reducing shock loads. The device is described as a peak accelerometer and indicates accelerations due to shock and vibration within the range of 0.3g.-100g.

The accelerometer has been tested on an Austin Gipsy 4 x 4 pick-up over a rough track. By taking a series of readings with the probe attached in turn to a front shock-absorber arm, a chassis outrigger and the box frame underneath the seat, it was found that the degree of shock reduction between the front stub axles and the chassis frame was in the ratio of 6.5 to 1 whilst a further 1.7 to 1 reduction of shock took place between the chassis and the seat frame.

Extracting Bearings AN extractor for drawing all types of ball and roller bearing from shafts is. being marketed in this country by G. E. Sims, Engineering, Ltd., Sheffield. The Dutch tool, known as the Tracta, is applied to the bearing by a collet which is slipped over the inner ring of the bearing so that its teeth locate on the

groove between the balls or rollers. When it is in place, the extractor chuck is tightened to compress the collet.

The central spindle of the extractor is then screwed in to contact the end of the shaft and withdraw the bearing.

"X" Range Extended A COVER of 7.00-20-in. section has

been added to the range of " X " Y steel-cord tyres made by Michelin Tyre Co., Ltd., Michelin House, 81 Fulham Road, London, S.W.3. The new tyre costs .£19 10s. and can replace conventional 7.00-20-in, covers of 8-, 10and 12-ply ratings and 7.50-20-in. (8-ply) tyres. It has a carrying capacity of 26+ cwt. and, for vehicles with decreasing loads, can be used also in place of 7.50-20-in. (10-ply) covers.
