The Latest Development of the Recently Formed Green Line Concern.

ONE of the most recent developments of the London General Omnibus Co., Ltd., of 55, Broadway, Westminster, London, S.W.1, has been the inauguration of Green Line Coaches, Ltd. This new undertaking has been formed to operate express motor coaches from London to the surrounding areas. It has been established as a separate unit for convenience of operation and in order to distinguish the express coaches from the existing single-deck buses operated in outlying areas by the L.G.O.Co.

At the moment, Green Line coaches radiate from the Charing Cross, Embankment, London, but this site is, of course, not one that is eminently suit

able for large numbers of vehicles. Therefore, it has been decided to construct a station close to Oxford Circus which will be used as the centre of operation for Green Line coaches and buses, and those vehicles which are now run by the. East Surrey Traction Co., Ltd., on behalf of the.L.G.O.Co. • The site in question covers the area formerly occupied by a large brewery in Broad Street, W.1 ; this thoroughfare runs roughly parallel to Oxford Street

and Piccadilly. It is (joined to the former by Berwick and Poland Streets, whilst it can be reached from Regent Street by travelling along Beak Street ; the connection southwards into Shaftesbury Avenue is via Lexington Street. This site is approximately a mile from the present Charing Cross starting point, and is so situated as to enable passengers easily to reach bus and Underground services taking them to all parts of the Metropolis.

At the moment demolition work is proceeding on the .site, and it will be some time before the station can be in full operation, it is understood that it will be laid out in ,the most modern manner, but final details have not yet been decided.

When it is completed there is little doubt that the new venture will do much to popularize express coach services to London's country. At present _Green Line coaches run to Brentwood, Bushey, Cobham, Colnbrook, Egham, Esher, Eton, Gidea Park, Guildford, Maidenhead, Ripley, Raeford, Slough, Staines, Sunningdale, Virginia Water, Watford, and Windsor.
