Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Busways Travel subsidiary Favourite Services of Durham is withdrawing the majority of its commercial services in County Durham and Cleveland, and ending direct competition with Trimdon Motor Services.

Favourite was set up in 1987 in response to IMS's challenge in Newcastle, when the Tyne and Wear Omnibus company was formed.

Now that the TWOC operation has been absorbed by Busways and the rest of Tms has been taken over by Caldaire, the loss-making routes, very much the majority, are no longer needed.

One minibus route from Durham to Coxhoe and Kelloe remains, but new work — including tendered services for the County Council — will maintain the Busways subsidiary at the present size.
