Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A'applicant who conducted his own case before the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners at Leeds last week said that he would have no difficulty in manning a new express works service he was proposing to operate, for he had drivers in the Doncaster area at his door every week, asking for jobs.

The applicant, Mr. F. Willis, of Hexthorpe, Doncaster, sought to run -a service between Edlington and the factory, Glass Bulbs Ltd., at Harworth. The application was opposed by Doncaster Corporation Transport, S. Morgan Ltd., Felix Motors Ltd. and East Midland Motor Services Ltd. All the objectors were represented by Mr. W. R. Hargrave.

n22 Mr. Willis told the Commissioners that his application was not an idea "he had concocted himself" but followed approaches by individual workers, asking him to run a bus to the works.

The Commissioners refused the application.

B to A Granted

THE Yorkshire deputy Licensing

Authority, Mr. J. H. E. Randolph, said at Leeds on Monday that a prima facie case had been made out by an Otley haulier who wanted to transfer two vehicles to his A licence fleet and surrender his B licence.

British Railways objected to the application by R. and E. Marsden (Otley) Ltd. Mr. C. G. Watson, objecting, submit ted that a case of need had not been made out, but for Marsden, Mr. H. G. Hall said that no one had suggested that British Railways could carry the type of traffic handled by the applicant and there was no objection from any other road haulier.

Giving his decision, Mr. Randolph said that this was not an application to put vehicles on a licence which had never turned a wheel. It was purely an application to serve existing customers better. Under the licence switch Marsden would have the advantages of interchangeability in the fleet, an advantage which would not only reflect in the quality of service given but in the rate the company would charge to customers in future.

The case had not been rebutted in any way and the application was therefore granted.
