BUILT by the famous Opel concern in Germany, now under the control of the General Motors Corporation of America, a new 2-4-ton model is to be ina.rketed in this country by Oldsmobile and Opel Distributors, Ltd., Terrell's Wharf, Townmead Road, Fulham, SAVA). The chassis will be available in three lengths of wheelbase, and is to be sold in Great Britain at a competitive price.

Oi straightforward modern, design, the chassis is equipped with a six. evil ndered side-valve engine having a bore and stroke of 79.38 mm. and 117.48 mm., respectively. The pistonswept volume is 3,485 c.c., and the R.A.C. rating. 23.5 h.p: A downdraught carburetter .with an accelerating pump is provided and is equipped with a large air cleaner. Coil ignition is employed and the electrical equipment is of Bosch make.

The starter is of the selector type, the first movement of the pedal engaging the pinion with the flywheel, full depression of the pedal operating the starter switch.

The engine is four-Point-mounted on robber blocks, and the clutch housing and gearbox are bolted to it to form a unit. The clutch is of the single-plate type, and the gearbox gives four forward speeds and a reverse.

An open propeller, shaft, equipped with needle-type mechanical joints, transmits the drive to the rear axle. On the 1°AI-wheelbase models the propeller shaft is of the two-piece type, and a centre bearing is provided.

Of the spiral-bevel type, the rear axle has fully floating driving shafts; the banjo housing is of cast steel, The standard ratio is 5.83 to 1, and an alternative ratio of 6.8 to 1 is, available for operation in hilly country.

The brakes are of the self-energizing type and are cable operated, the foot and hand brake being interconnected and operating on all four wheels. Two shoes are provided in each drum, and the total friction surface is 275 sq. ins.

Steering is effected by a worm and sector gear, which is semi-reversible. Ample . adjustment is provided, and the worm is mounted on tapered roller bearings.

The frame is of pressed-steel construction and is stiffened by sturdy cross-members of channel section. The maximum depth of the frame is 6 17-32 ins, on the short-wheelbase model and Oft ins, on the long-wheelbase models.

A 134-gallon petrol tank is mounted beneath the driving sea' and fuel is fed to the carburetter through the medium of an AC. mechanical pump. On the longer-wheelbase chassis an optional fuel tank of nearly 20-gallon capacity is available, for side mounting.

The appearance of the chassis is good, and the equipment provided is unusually complete. Draughtless ventilation, on the Fisher principle, is provided for the driver's cab, and a dual windscreen wiper driven from a motor, centrally disposed, on the engine side of the dashboard makes for added safety.

A five-lamp lighting set is provided, the headlamps having Bilux bulbs and the rear lighf incorporating a stop light. The electrical equipment is completed by a high-frequency horn and direction indicators.

The chassis is available in wheelbases of 11 ft. 2 ins., 13 ft. 1 in., and 15 ft. 3 ins, and the chassis weights are 30 cwt., 31 cwt. and 32 cwt. respeer tively.
