The 62nd IAA International. CV Show at Hannover is the biggest ever, with 2,000 exhibitors from 50 countries. The CM team brings you news from the opening day.

ME R CEDES-BENZ'S Actros has fought off a concerted challenge from lveco, Volvo and Scania to win the coveted International Truck of the Year 2009 award. The trophy was handed over to M-B senior management at this week's IAA Show in Hannover.

The new Actros, launched earlier this year, was elected with 75 of the votes, Iveco was a close second with 68 votes, while Volvo and Scania tied for bronze with 38 each.

The jury is made up of senior commercial vehicle journalists throughout Europe, and while recognising the Actros wasn't the newest product in terms of technical innovation in this year's election, the jury was impressed with how M-B had addressed all the major, and minor, concerns evident with the truck, while stepping up the safety and quality aspects of the vehicle.

While Mercedes-Benz is enjoying glory with Truck of the Year, the International Van of the Year accolade goes to Citroen, Fiat and Peugeot for their jointly developed new minivan, branded Nemo, Morino and Bipper respectively. This stylish, all-new van has created a brand new sector for light commercial vehicles, and is aimed at fleet and retail customers looking for an attractive, yet practical product for urban operation.
