ROYAL MAIL delivery driver John Watret has been named Thick Driver of the Year 2001 Watret, from Sutton, who previously won the Van Driver Competition in 1994, 1995 and 2001.beat 140 other finalists to win the award.
"I am delighted to have won the truck driver category at last —I have been entering the competitionfor 15 years.Truck driving is in my blood. I used to go out with my dad when was younger and see him enter this competition too,"saysWatret. This year's Van Driver of the Year is Parcelforce Worldwide driver Patrick Boyle, from Northern Ireland.
The finals of both categories were held at Crowthorne where drivers were required to take part in a manoeuvring test and answer a theory paper on the Highway Code and driver legislation. They then spent 10 minutes out on the road with a Driving Standards Agency instructor showing their day-to-day driving techniques and reactions to emergency situations.
