Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IRISH HAULIERS can expect lower insurance premiums in the coming year, says the Irish Road Haulage Association.

Following a recent round of meetings with insurers. IRHA spokesman Vincent Caulfield says the market has softened and insurers are coming back into the market to underwrite new business.

"It will still be dear; but they will underwrite a bit more and costs will be down to individual records," he says.

Truck operators can reduce claim costs through better health and safety practices, Caulfield adds: "Hauliers must bring down the frequency of accidents and improve their reporting methods when accidents do occur."

Insurers have taken a more proactive stance in assessing claims in the past twelve months, he says, and one, Quinn Direct, has a policy of agreeing claims within 60 days, if possible — all of which reduces the cost of claims.

The IRHA plans to introduce safety seminars for members aimed at avoiding or reducing the costs of accidents.
