• The three-month-old battle for Atkinson Lorries has entered a new stage with the announcement that a fresh approach has been made by Fodens "which could lead to new and improved offers": Fodens' last bid, valuing each share at 9s 11(1, lapsed. Currently, Atkinson is awaiting formal documents of a third offer by ERF. British Leyland, which holds 27 per cent of Fodens' shares and 20 per cent of Atkinson's, has made no statement regarding its position in the struggle.
