Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Daimler Co., Ltd., P.O. Box 29, Radford Works, Coventry.

pXAMPLES of the two rear-engined passenger chassis made by Daimler are to be seen on this stand as bodied vehicles and as bare chassis also, making four in all. The models are, of course, the Fleetline double-decker and the dew Roadliner single-decker which was announced in the September 4 issue of The Commercial Motor.

The bodied Roadliner is a 50-seater with a body by Marshall of Cambridge (Engineering) Ltd. for Potteries Motor Traction, this being a bus version with a single-step entrance and a slightly ramped floor to the rear. This exhibit will show how the Cummins V engine is accommodated under the rear passengers' seat, and how good accessibility is provided through rear doors. Interesting is the Clayton Dewandre heating and ventilating equipment, which has radiators on each side of the body with hydraulically-operated reversible fans. The radiators are used for engine cooling and air drawn through them can be passed into the body for heating purposes. Alternatively by reversing the fans, air can be drawn from the saloon and forced through the radiators or directed away from them if the engine coolant is below a certain temperature.

The Roadliner chassis exhibit has the higher-rated version of the Cummins V6-200 engine, which gives 192 b.h.p. net at 2,600 r.p.m. For the bus version the unit is de-rated both in fuel delivery and maximum speed to produce a maximum of 150 b.h.p. net at 2100 r.p.m. The chassis serves to show the layout of units, such as the Daimatic semi-automatic gearbox, the full-air-suspension system and valve layout and the brake system. The Fleetline is well known but an alteration to the engine-mounting sub-structure announced today is of interest on the chassis featured. There has been a considerable lightening of the steel members which support the engine and transmission, and this has resulted in a weight saving of about 3 cwt. The complete Fleetline has a body by M.H. Coachworks of Belfast, who also assembled the chassis from C.K.D. parts supplied by Daimler.

Prices have been released by Daimler for the two chassis on show. These are 13,600 for the Fleetline and 0,500 for the Roadliner, both relating to chassis only.
