AS CM WENT TO press, speculation was mounting that Scania might bid to snap up MAN.
Last week Swedish media claimed Volkswagen and major Scania shareholder Investor AB had agreed that the Swedish truck builder would bid for MAN, thereby allowing for the three-way merger of the two European truck manufacturers with VW's CV division.
These reports have been ridiculed by other media sources, which suggest they are merely designed to boost the once of MAN shares. However none of the protagonists have denied the rumours.
