system, the Vacurnig, extracts 98% of the welding fumes through the nozzle of the MIG welding gun.

Thegun works in conjunction with an extraction unit coupled to the welding hoses. Four sizes of gun including a water-cooled model are available covering the range of 180-400amps. The extraction unit comes in mobile and static types. Three versions of each type are available. The mobile ones, like the unit shown in the illustration working in conjunction with a Miller Arc Pak 500, are suitable for single welding units up to 400amps capacity.

Model 2500 has manual filter cleaning while models 3000 and 3800 incorporate automatic filter cleaning. The three static units can handle the welding fumes from four to 25 welders. Two of the units have manual filter cleaning while in the case of the largest capacity unit, the model S3800, it is automatic. All systems exhaust the welding fumes to the outside of the building.

Welding Products Ltd PO Box 21 Trust Industrial Estate Wilbury Way Hitchin Hertfordshire SG4 OUP cliffe, Co Durham. It culminates this month in the conversion of its range of products to UK manufacture and the launch of the first of a new generation of compounds, Single Step, and a new Wetordry paper designated 314 Fine.

314 Fine features an aluminium oxide coating allowing quick nib removal, and the wide, shallow profile produced gives a good surface for the application of Single Step finishing compound, which is both a mild abrasive and contains glossing agents. These products are aimed particularly at localised rectification work.

The new Fine quality paper is intended for use when Single Step is applied by machine. For hand finishing, the use of 3M 737 Superfine is recommended.

Single Step is ammonia, wax and silicone free; it is claimed that it will not smear and so does not produce the hazing and milkiness associated with some dark colours.
