Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

occasionally drive. As no charge is made to the passengers it .is, there/ore, not classified as a public service vehicle. Could you tell me what .is the maximum speed at which the vehicle can be driven?

A Section 78 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1967 governs the speed limit for certain classes of vehicles as outlined in Schedule 5 to the Act. Paragraph 1 of the Schedule deals with passenger vehicles.

Here, a passenger vehicle with an unladen weight of more than 3 tons or carrying more than seven passengers, which is a public service vehicle, may be driven up to 50 mph. A similar vehicle which is not a psv, however, may not exceed 40 mph.

Thus, the vehicle which you have described is restricted to 40 mph.

The Department of the Environment has proposed amendments to these limits which will allow all passenger vehicles subject to the prescribed limits to be driven at 50 mph. The introduction of the amendment is still awaited.
