• An anti-fatigue system to wake up drivers who fall asleep at the wheel and slow the truck down at the same time, is scheduled for launch in the UK early next year.
lt will be introduced by vehicle security equipment specialist litech Automotive. The company was unwilling to disclose full details at this stage, but it seems likely the device will cut the truck's speed by shutting off the fuel pump.
Truck manufacturers seem cautious about introducing such devices themselves. "If it works and improves safety, then that's great," says a Mercedes-Benz spokesman, "But there are all sorts of technical problems associated with this type of equipment, As far as I am aware, Mercedes is not working on anything of this nature."
