Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALL ASPECTS of motorway service areas are to be probed by a Government-appointed committee. A report is expected by June 1978.

The appointment of the independent committee was announced on Tuesday. Mr Peter Prior, chairman of H. P. Bulmer Ltd, which employs 200 lorry drivers, is chairman.

Members of the committee include Hugh Marshall, 43year-old driver with Keytrans at Hull, who is secretary of the 10/56 branch of the TGWU. One of the points he will be looking into, he told CM, is the reason for separate transport cafeterias being frequently closed. His view of cafeteria food? "Some is pretty fair, some pretty bad."

The committee has been appointed by William Rodgers, Secretary of State for Transport, and Roy Hattersley, Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection.

Mr Rodgers told a press conference: "For some considerable time there has been concern whether the motorway service areas are meeting the needs of travellers, of which I am one. Much of the concern is whether we are getting value for money from many service areas; this is an independent inquiry, the first in the 18 years since these areas were established. 'Nothing is excluded f4 consideration by the corn tee, which will make rec mendations to Governmen Mr Robert Lennan, Patj mentary Under-Secretary; State for Prices and Consurill Protection, said: "We h4v received many indications! dissatisfaction, many abol prices and charging po1i4 There is a wider concern' quality is equally importaiin So we have established broad-based inquiry."

There are 37 service ar in England and three in Scla land. There will be 24 m when the motorway syste completed.
