Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE first services from Scottish 1 Omnibuses' new £90,000 garage at Baillieston started last week. The need for the new depot arose through recent developments in the Glasgow area, which resulted in a major increase in the number of vehicles operated from the Airdrie Depot. It thus became necessary to provide additional accommodation for vehicles and also to strengthen the control organization. These features, together with a substantial reduction in light mileage, have been achieved by the building of the new depot, which is just outside the Glasgow City boundary, thus enabling the fleet to be split between the two depots, with approximately 90 buses at each. Apart from some centralization of clerical work at Airdrie.

the new depot is an entirely selfcontained building.

The main structure is 255 ft. long with two bays each of 80 ft. span and provides up-to-date facilities for servicing and maintenance, including four pits connected by sunk workshop, and a tiled chassis-cleaning pit connected to the main drainage through suitable sumps.

The office block, 20 ft. wide, is of the lean-to type and provides facilities for

public inquiry and for administrative and clerical staff. Adequate accommodation for canteen purposesand for both platform and maintenance staff has been included.

Garage lighting is by 400-watt colourcorrected mereury vapour, with sodium fittings to light the adjacent concrete yard. The bus-fuelling system is of the gravity type with a tank of 5,000 gallons supplying two fiowmeters which are situated at the entrance door to the new depot, thus enabling easy fuelling.
