Ma. R. D. FYFE, general manager of Wordie and Co., Ltd., and its associated concerns, the well-known group of road-transport companies in Scotland. Northern Ireland and Eire, recently completed 50 years' service with the concern, and the occasion was marked by a complimentary luncheon, under the chairmanship of Mr. V. G. E. Treble, C.A., secretary of the company, during the course of which a presentation of plate was made by Col. William Wordie, 0.B.E., T.D., who was supported by his co-directors.

Col. Wordie spoke in high terms of the ability with which Mr. Fyfe served the company and of the high regard in which he was held by clients in all parts of the country.

COUNCILLOR CHARLES HOLDSWORTH, of Halifax, chairman of the Northeastern Division of the C.M.U.A., has been elected chairman of Halifax Corporation's passenger transport committee in succession to ALDERMAN A H. GLEDHILL, now chairman of the corporation's finance committee. Councillor IIoldsworth was previously vice-chairman of the passenger transport committee, in which position he is succeeded by CouNculze. E. T. BOWER.

MR. J. T. RYMER has joined the Board of Blackstone and Co., Ltd., of Stamford.

MR. H. V. SENIOR, of the Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd., and a well-known oil-engine authority, is the new president of the Institution of Engineering Inspection.

MR, A. E. FORD, who, since 1933, has been superintendent service engineer at the north-western branch of John I. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., at Manchester, is now serving as an acting captain in the R.A.S.C.

MR. A. S. PF.ATTEN, chief officer at Malden and Coombe, Surrey, has been appointed firemaster at Greenock, in succession to MR. WILLIAM TAYLOR, who has retired. There were 41 applicants for the position. Mr. Pratten served in Bristol Fire Brigade for nine years before being appointed chief officer at Whiston, Lancs. He joined the Malden and Coombe brigade nearly three years ago.

ALDERMAN G. PARKINSON, j.P., of Burnley, has been appointed chairman of Burnley, Colne and Nelson Joint Transport Committee with ALDERMAN J. W. GRADWELL, J.P., also of Burnley, as vice-chairman. After considering the reorganization of staff, following upon the appointment of MR. H. BROUGHTON (chief administrative assistant) as general manager, MR. WHALLEY, traffic superintendent, has been made deputy general manager, and MR. F. Fourms, chief clerk and cashier.

MR. F. G. WOOLLARD, chairman of the Coventry Centre of the Institution of Automobile Engineers for the past 12 years, was presented with a handsome silver salver, in recognition of his services to the Centre, at Coventry last week, when 12 members of the senior committee met at an informal dinner. Me. C. M. VAN EUGEN, the new chairman, made the presentation on behalf of 18 committee members, past and present. He recalled that amongst the notable advances sponsored and achieved under Mr. Woollard's chairmanship were the constitution of the Midland Advisory Council, and the publication of the I.A.E. Journal, which appears at monthly intervals.

Mr. Woollard, who is vice-president of the Institution, would, but for the advent of the war, have occupied the presidential chair during the present session. It was for this reason that be found it necessary to resign his chairmanship of the Coventry Centre, presidency being a full-time job.
