Actually the proposed increase applies only to the special carriers' licences, and not to taxation by unladen weight, which is already enormous, and which, incidentally, is not within the control of the Minister of Transport, but comes within the purview of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The new charges suggested were published in this journal many months ago, and are intended to coincide with the issue of extended-period licences.

Such a service, he thought, could well be applied to work of greater importance. We agree.
