/ Midlands-based Powered Access has taken over beleaguered Newark-based bodybuilder, Charlesworth Transport Engineering.
Jack Barnett, managing director of Powered Access's Southwell, Notts operation, says the company has bought up all of Charlesworth's assets, and has guaranteed employment for its entire workforce.
Barnett says the Charlesworth operation will continue under the banner of Powered Access, but adds: We will be taking a fresh look at the vehicle and aluminium body markets to try and find a special niche."
Powered access already employs 130 people building hydraulic access platforms for worldwide export. "We were interested in Charlesworth because we have a very large order book and needed extra people and extra capacity to help," says Barnett. We also believe that the skills of people in that organisation will fit in well with the existing Powered Access operation." Phil Charlesworth will be staying on as managing director of his former factory.
Earlier this year Charlesworth linked up with Telehoist as part of an agreement to build Telehoist's smooth-sided Telloy aluminium tipping bodies and to distribute Telehoist hydraulic products in the North. These arrangements are still under consideration.
