I N a statement issued last Monday th international committee of the Trader Road Transport Association expresse concern that transport rules being draw up within the Common Market do i.e so far make provision_ for C hirin margins in the way permitted by Uli legislation.
The statement said: "This applies i Rule II of the European Econom Community, which excludes transport c own account (our C-licensed transpor from regulations regarding document; tion. It also arises in the course of directive currently under discussion whit is designed to liberalize transport on on account from restrictions and quot; when operating across the nation frontiers of the six countries of tl E.E.C. in both cases, transport on ov account is defined so as to exclude hip transport.
"It is known that there are differenc of opinion among the countries co ccrned regarding the conditions und which hiring might be permitted, at the present intention appears to be exclude all forms of hire or contract u of vehicles from transport on ON account.
"However, transport policy within t E.E.C. is still in the formative stage, a the E.E.C. Commission's detailed pi posals for a common transport policy a due for submission to the Council Ministers by May 25_ These may sh further light on the future policy relation to hired transport."
