Three Indonesian trainee mechanics are at present in Australia learning maintenance practice for the Comet. When the buses are put in service, two qualified Australian maintenance engineers will visit Djakarta with, possibly, a transport manager to advise on operation.

NEW MINIATURE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

TWO types of fire extinguisher, both notable. for their small size, have been produced by Bradville Trading Co.. Ltd., 6 Stratton Street, London W.I. Model T.50 is 5 in. high and 1 in in diameter and the Model T.54, 10 in by 11 in.

Filled with chlorobrornomethant they are suitable for attacking petrol. oil and electrical fires. They are filled under a pressure of 90 p.s.i. and give jet of about 20 ft.

If only part of the contents is needed the valve can be shut and the residue retained for further use. Model T.50 costs 39s. 6d., with refills at 12s. 6d.. and Model T.54 sells at 55s., the cost of refilling being I7s. hd.

INGENIOUS NEW CLAMPS

AVA1LABLE in 16 sizes, an ingenious new type of clamp is being marketed by the Rockwell Machine Tool Co., Ltd., Welsh Harp, Edgware Road. London, N.W.2.

Each clamp has a range of adjustment provided by a contour resembling a helical staircase at the top of the base piece. A member supporting the clamping strap may be placed anywhere or, this staircase, after which the bolt passing through the strap and supporting member in the base piece can be tightened.

The clamps are suited to various sizes T-slot.

NIMBUS ON SKYE TOUR

AN Albion Nimbus 28-seat coach of James Smith and Co. (Wigan), Ltd., has inaugurated tours of the Isle of Skye. Its unladen weight of 4 tons permits operation on the island's roads, which are subject to a strict weight limit.

The coach as tried before the Scottish tour on a 900-mile seven-day trip to Land's End. A smooth, quiet ride was reported. The Plaxton body, which is 7 ft. I0i in. wide, has a large luggage compartment at the rear.

A number of Albicfn lightweight petrol-engined buses, belonging to Skye Transport, are stationed on the island to serve tourists and local inhabitants.

Slough Invites Entries

ELIMINATING SUN GLARE L'OUND to be a valuable driving aid by a representative of The C0131inercial Motor, the Sunmaster anti'dazzle windscreen strip has been

oduceu by Castle's Unit Develop ment, Ltd., Church Gate, Leicester. The strip is made of transparent green-tinted plastics and may be trimmed to fit neatly along the top_of the windscreen on the inside.

No adhesive is required, and the strip may quickly be put in place or detached. Irritating sun glare is effectively filtered with only slight impairment of upward visibility.

The strips cost bs. 6d. each.

Tighter Supervision of Drivers Wanted

A'appeal to employers to tighten their supervision of drivers in respect of hours and records was made by the Brierley Hill stipendiary magistrate last week. Before him were 37cases of breaches of the law. In none was it suggested that there had been any pressure on drivers to break the law.

A desire by drivers to arrive home at night or to stay at home a little longer before starting work was given as the main excuse for the offences.

The magistrate recognized that it was difficult for employers to supervise men when they were a long way from home, but log sheets should be checked regularly.

Various drivers paid up to £6 each in fines and their employers were also summonsed. Pearson, Smith and Co. (Audnam), Ltd., Audnam Foundry, Jonction Road, Wordsley, paid a total of £30. including costs.

TRAILER EXPORT CONTROL

XPORT licences. are now required for specified trailers and semitrailers to be sent to countries other than the British Commonweath, Eire and the U.S.A. This is to comply rith the Export of Goods (Control) (Amendment No. 5) Order (Stationery Office, 2d.).

' I.o.W. RALLY POSTPONED

THE Isle of Wight commercial-vehicle rally, which was to have' been held last Saturday, was cancelled at the last moment through lackof support. The Isle of Wight Joint Road Safety Committee, the organizers, hope to hold the contest in September.
