• A Harwich owner-driver intends to keep the haulier's fight against the fuel escalator fired up by staging a protest convoy in Essex on Easter Saturday. John Tye has enlisted 40 hauliers to take part in the peaceful demonstration which will leave and return to Harwich after moving on to the Al2 and the M25. Tye. who has been an owner—driver for 17 years, says he has never seen the industry in such crisis. "It is just costing me too much money to run my own vehicle," he says. "It is crazy and we must make the Government listen." Although he is happy at the number of operators he knows will be joining him on the demonstration, Tye is keen for even more to join.
