In its original Euro-1 form the EC6 was offered with a choice of two 210hp engines— the Cummins 6BTAA210 or the Perkins Phaser 210Ti. With the arrival of Euro-2 the Perkins option was dropped in favour of the Cummins B-Series, rated at 212 and 232hp. The current EC6 has Eaton synchromesh transmissions in either six or nine-speed form; power is transmitted via a singleplate 356mm-diameter clutch to a Rockwell 5153 drive axle which is fitted with a difflock as standard.

The front and rear suspension comprises steel taperleaf springs with hydraulic dampers and anti-roll bars.

ERF offers cabs in standard or LX trim levels, but the company's "custom-build" philosophy extends to a number of other variants.
