• Quarry trucks are the biggest single cause of fatal accidents involving road haulage workers, according to the Health & Safety Executive, which plans to launch new proposals for safety legislation tomorrow (Friday 26 June).

The fatal accident rate in quarrying is currently four times higher than in the con struction industry as a whole. The proposed regulations will cover all the main health and safety issues, taking account of new technology.
