Panic Link, has gone on trial accused of killing a retired police inspector by reckless driving.

Norman was allegedly driving his Mercedes car on the wrong side of the road when he hit 67-year-old Doreen Brailsford's Nissan Micra. He left the scene in an employee's car, Leicester Crown Court heard this week.

Geoffrey Solomons, prosecuting, said Norman had "a considerable amount to drink" in a pub immediately before the crash on the A587 near Coalville. Brailsford had been driving at 30mph, he said, whereas Norman had been travelling round the bend at high speed.

Brailsford died almost instantly.
