• THE BOSS of CIE, Eire's State-owned transport company is expected to lose about £25m this year, has decided to quit 'his £15,000 a year job. Mr John Byrne, who was appointed general manager in 1972, said he would leave at the end of 1975.

He added that he intended to take up a position in industry and was considering a number of offers, including one connected With the exploration for oil and gas around the coast. He rejected suggestions that he was leaving because of a personality clash with the company's chairman, Mr Liam St John Devlin.

A joint statement issued by CIE •and Mr Byrne, while regretting ,his decision to resign, appreciated the peronal reasons involved. Mr Byrne joined CIE in 1961 as a works study officer.
