Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The first plastics-cased alkaline battery designed specifically for commercial vehicles has been introduced by Lucas CAV.

Designated the LCV12, i combines the traditional advan tages of the nickel-cadmium al clusters so as to reduce their cost so far as possible.

Two new clusters offered, models 57 and 58, are of similar construction except that the 58 employs double rear-light bulbs. The reflectors that used to be embodied in the 37 and 38 models, predecessors of the new units, are now omitted. In their place is moulded a solid rubber reinforcing bar which carries the fixing studs for the reflector bracket. As in past models, the bulb carriers are removable and spares are readily available.

A newly restyled unit bearing the model number 53 has also been introduced to the range of lamps made by the firm. This model is provided with the fixing studs to mount the new reflectors and also embodies a fresh approach to lens fitting which can, on older types, prove very difficult and time-consuming, especially when the weather is cold.

The lens of the model 53 is a one-piece unit which has a 45degree lead on the securing flange. To fit, it is only necessary to press the lead against the rubber body of the lamp which spreads to permit the lens to locate. Around the inner surface of the lens is a ridge which, when the lens is fully home, locates against a rib forming an -0"-ring seal to prevent the ingress of water and other foreign matter.

The type 53 is not handed and will equally well serve both sides of a vehicle. A colourless section of plastics material is moulded into the red section of the lens and this provides for number plate illumination. Rubbolite's address is: Rubboltte House, Centre Drive, Epping, Essex.

keline battery with the corrosionproof properties of the plastics-cased cell. Electrical leakage between cells has been virtually eliminated, even under damp and dirty operating conditions. The electrolyte level is generous and -flip" type vents minimize topping-up time.

The LCV12 withstands the continuous over-charging that is often encountered with alternators fitted to modern commercial vehicles. The batteries have a capacity at 10hr rate of-120Ah and are suitable for use with standard constant-voltage equipment; weight of the 12V battery (9 cells) is 192Ib including electrolyte, that of the 24V battery 118 cells) 3841b.

It is claimed that the LCV12 will last the life of a bus or truck. Made by: Joseph Lucas, Great Hampton Street, Birmingham 18.

Its acquisition of a limited quantity of Simms Electric Starter Motors, Type 524 SGRH 254/11 has been announced by Apollo Power Units. The -11" indicates that all modifications are incorporated on the model.

The motors are of a type fitted to Gardner 6LX engines used Atkinson, Foden, ER F and Daimler vehicles. They are also a direct replacement for the Simms 524 SGRH 251 model and, in certain cases, the 524 SGRH 257.
